Cultivate & Celebrate a Garden Inspired Life

A Gardening Journey

My personal gardening, cooking, and wellness journey began thirteen years ago, after being diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Over the months following my diagnosis, my health was a very bumpy ride, but I quickly learned the impact my food was having on my body. Over time, trial and error, I have learned to manage my symptoms with minimal discomfort and medication. I believe the key elements of my wellness journey are my connection to nature, my home, my food, my family and my friends. Gardening, cooking, and entertaining have become my creative outlet, which benefits not only my body, but my heart, mind, and soul as well. How I connect with my garden, my food, and the people I love is now one of my greatest sources of wellness, creativity, and fulfillment, and my goal is to help others find their own journey towards these beautiful things.

Embrace the Perfectly Imperfect

Everything I share in my blog was learned through trial and error and a lot of experimenting. I spend a lot of time elbow deep in the dirt, both literally and metaphorically. My garden has been described as “wild, but also not wild”. Some parts are manicured and some are “perfectly imperfect”, as I like to call them. I also don’t live on a huge property with tons of land, and so much of the food I grow, I grow in containers.

Dairy Free and Gluten Free

Almost every recipe you will find at the Sow & Sip Society is dairy free and gluten free. We also focus on vegetarian and pescatarian cooking. This lifestyle has served as an important complement to my medicines. I notice that when I veer off track, my autoimmune symptoms increase, and I have to use more prescribed medication. But when I focus on using the recipes included in our blog, I have less pain and inflammation, my visible symptoms improve, and my general sense of wellness increases. I am not saying we all have to eat healthy all the time, but the garden can be a source of inspiration for meals full of whole, fresh, and colorful ingredients.
